    Title:
    OutLook link is not working
    Content:

Tell you what I've done. Installed Paperport on new computer and it works fine, but noticed Outlook icon was missing from the bottom panel. So I created a link to Outlook, but I get a error: The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using. Then I created a shortcut to Outlook that will attach a document to Outlook. Tested it outside of Paperport and it works fine. I removed the Outlook link inside of Paperport and added a new link pointing to my link and it still doesn't work. Get the same error as above. My question is... How do I get Outlook to link up correctly inside of Paperport Version 11. The link I used outside of Paperport is:

    "c:\Program Files(x86)\Micosoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE" /a

This works fine when I do a right click->Send To->Microsoft Outlook

The link on the "Send To" bar doesn't seem to be a program link, with or without switches.

You don't say if you tried the other way of adding Outlook to the "Send To" bar:

      • Tools
      • Sent To Options
      • Pick Outlook
      • Include icon on Send To bar

Also "Refresh" the "Send To" bar. If that fails, Repair PaperPort. (Which version do you have?) That can fix broken registry entries, program links and stuff.

I'm running Paperport version 11. Where do I go to repair paperport. Do I do it inside paperport or go to program and features and select repair.

That's a pretty old version, which may explain the problem.

To repair the installation it is usually done in Windows "program and features and select repair", as you have surmised.

Another option is to run the original install routine and then to select the repair option.

Since this is an old version...Ultimate question now is does Outlook 2010 work on this version. Are there any updates?

      • Michael Kenward

What is the date of that release?

While the Outlook PST format may not have changed, the program itself will be very different.

Updates? Try PaperPort 12 from 2009 or PaperPort 14, now nearly two years old. (They are superstitious at Nuance.) Nuance rarely updates within versions (there was PP11.2 in 2008), and certainly not to make old versions compatible with new software.

But I would not give up on PP11 if that suits you.

We still dolt know if you have done a refresh on the Send To bar, or repaired your installation.

Ok, I did a refresh, repair(Paperport/Outlook), uninstall(Paperport 11), install(Paperport 11) and even loaded Paperport 14. Out of the box that doesn't even work. I believe my issue is that there are two versions of Office running. Office 2007 and Microsoft Outlook 2010 stand alone edition. Some how Paperport is not collecting the right registry settings and therefore Outlook is not showing up at the bottom of the toolbar. When I create an Outlook link it will not allow me to enter the full link it needs for Outlook to fire off properly:

      C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~3\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

      All I can enter is:

      C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~3\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE

I even created a shortcut to the top link and added that to paperport with the same error:

"The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."

Can someone please point me in the right direction.
